WELCOME TO GRANDPA’S WORLD!

Your true story of growing up without modern comforts,
where every day was an adventure

About The Book

Step into a vanished America where a four-pound newborn sleeps in a shoebox and nobody is sure he’ll make it. Born in 1938, Gary Kruse grew up on Nebraska farms when water had to be pumped, baths happened only on Saturday night, and the privy was a midnight trek, and a Halloween battleground. He takes you into one-room schoolhouses, wartime milkweed-pod drives, and chores that could turn dangerous fast, from crank-starting engines to teeth drilled without today’s painkillers. Yet the real suspense is in the small moments: what happens when a prank goes wrong, a winter night turns brutal, or a hard lesson becomes a family legend. Warm, funny, and startlingly real, open it, and see how much you take for granted.

About The Author

Gary Kruse (born 1938) is a lifelong Midwesterner, entrepreneur, and storyteller whose work has blended small-town grit with big ideas. He built Kruse Distributing Company, later incorporated as Krudico Inc., into a respected water-treatment business, known for practical innovation and strong dealer relationships. A longtime industry educator, Kruse has written for trade publications, chaired national educational seminars, and helped author water-treatment references, including Water Filtration and Reverse Osmosis, as well as his own guide to water treatment. In 2002, he received the International Water Quality Association’s Key Award of Merit for contributions to both the industry and his home community.

Deeply involved in civic life, Kruse was named Lake View’s Citizen of the Year and later honored as Grand Marshal of the city parade. He and his wife, Myrna, also created community traditions, like the Cow Pasture Golf tournament, which has raised thousands for local causes.
